Lost In Chinese Translation

I was just browsing the pics in my external hard disk...then i remember about the China trip we made two years ago...can't believe how fast time flies...that particular trip always remain as my top five trip...just a short trip but it was so memorable...

As usual i told my friends about the promo AA was having back then...if i am not mistaken...it was RM380 for return ticket inclusive tax to Tianjin...nowadays you won't get that kind of fare any longer with the additional fuel surcharge...i was glad that i made that trip...it was the second time i fly AA on a long haul trip (6 hours) aside from London few years back...there were 5 of us on that particular trip...2 guys and 3 girls...

Fly all the way to Binhai International Airport in Tianjin...took the bus to the train station for RMB10...once we reached the train station...we took the bullet train to Beijing for RMB60...it was going as fast as 371km/h...and we didn't feel a thing...less than an hour later we arrived in Beijing...took the incredibly cheap subway ride...it was only RMB2 throughout any part of Beijing...then we reached our lodging for the nite...it was Qianmen Hostel...just a short walk from Tianamen Square...near to the subway which prove to be very convenient for us to travel around...the hostel was RMB200 for two nites per person...it has the basic facilities...clean and just nice for us...as it was only the place for us to sleep...coz most of the time we will be around the city...

After checked in we immediately took the subway to the Olympic Arena...switched train lines for 4 times...but still it cost RMB2...the Olympic Arena was magnificent at night...with the high end modern architecture that derived from the chinese ideas...the Bird's Nest...Watercube...it surely was great...we took the subway back to the hostel...nearby the hostel there were a muslim restaurant...but it was dem hard to even order a food since their english is very limited or non at all...luckily the menu has pictures in it...so we were limited to order based on the pics as the menu was written in chinese...hurmmm...then we went back to the hostel to rest for the nite...

The next day we took off early in the morning...took the subway to Beijing North Railway station...to take a train ride to Badaling Great Wall...it was RMB40 return...1 hour ride later and we reached the station...immediately after we got out of the train...i went to the counter to buy the train ticket ride back to Beijing...as i read in the internet one should do that otherwise the ticket will be sold out...so you have to take the later train in the evening...from the train station we just walked to the Great Wall entrance...paid RMB40...and we started on the hike at the Great Wall...it was an amazing man-made structure...can't imagine how did the people back then build it...it went cross the mountains and it was long long long way...it was tiring like no other...then we walked back to the train station...and took the train back to the city...

We went straight to Wangfujing Dajie...just to walk for the nite...it was the shopping street of Beijing...we went for dinner at one of the muslim restaurant nearby...they even have the food market nearby with all those exotic foods...scorpions...insects...snakes...you name it...and some of it are still alive...errrrr...there was also this night market within the building where we bought souvenirs...it was incredibly cheap...of course...bargaining is a must whenever you are buying something in city...after we done with it...rather than taking the subway...we decided to walk back to the hostel...it was seriously a long walk...tiring like no other...we were still recovering from Great Wall in the morning...it was actually my fault since i forgotten to read the scale on the map...coz on the map it looks just nearby...hahaha...everyone was exhausted when we reached the hostel...it didn't take long before we just go on and sleep...hahaha...

We checked out of the hostel early in the morning...but we leave our bags there...we went to the famous Forbidden City...paid for the entrance...then we walked again...my owh my...it was another long walk from the entrance to go inside...it was divided into several layers...and everyone was having a foot ache like no other...we took the subway to Wangfujing to have lunch in the same restaurant that we had dinner the nite before...then we went straight to the Silk Market for some shopping spree...hehehe...it was a complex filled with imitation goods...hahaha...and also those textile products...after we done with it...we went back to the hostel...picked our bags and took the subway again to Beijing South Railway station to take the train back to Tianjin...we already asked the guy in the reception counter to wrote down the name of our hotel in Tianjin so that we can just show it to the taxi driver...

Once we reached Tianjin...went in the taxi...straight to the hotel...we spent the nite in Ibis Hotel Railway Station...its seriously near to Tianjin Railway station...just 15 mins walk...but since we have our bags with us...we took taxi instead...after we checked in we immediately went for a night walk...Tianjin is nice...i can't imagine that it will look like that...the architecture looks like we were in some european country...with the river flowing thru the city...it was something else...we had late nite supper in McDonalds near the railway station...then we walked back to the hotel...

We went out early in the morning to the Tianjin Cultural Street...this time we once again asked the guy at the counter to write it down on a piece of paper as well coz they hardly speaks any english...the cultural street has all those goods that we found in the Silk Market in Beijing...only it was cheaper here...it was not a complex...but rather a compound filled with shop houses...bought some stuffs...then we went back to the hotel to check out...took the taxi ride back to Binhai International Airport...as our flight will depart at 3.30 p.m back to Malaysia...

It was an interesting trip...we had our good share of fun...and comedic moments throughout the days we were there...we were chased by a dog...we had to mimicked the animals to order food...bargain like there's no tomorrow with the people to get good price...accidentally stepping on a local's foot while going inside a taxi...running away from what we thought a dog...and many more...this was one trip that never fails to put a smile on my face whenever i think of it...as we were a bunch of strangers in a foreign land...where english is rare...where facebook and youtube are blocked...it was where...we all lost in chinese translation...
